Woodchucks or groundhogs as they are also called can thrive in Connecticut.
Born in April or May, A chuck can have up to 8 in a litter. After about 6 weeks, the young are
weaned and will start to explore the areas surrounding their den.
Commonly found in a den dug under ground or under a shed or deck, they are diurnal and active
only during the day. They are also found in and under rock walls and are excellent diggers and
tunnelers.
As herbivores, they can become quite the pest of a gardener, often eating flowers, vegetables and
ornamental.
